Jobs and employment opportunities are always an issue in any rural community. On Bruny, hospitality and tourism are the biggest employers. As a community, we would like to create a new source of sustainable employment on Bruny that has the potential to be a major employer.

We are a community based group looking at various ways to start vertical sea farming operations in the waters off Bruny. The start would be to establish a pilot or test farm to test viability and highlight any issues.

Luckily on Bruny Island, we already have a core number of locals who have considerable aquaculture experience already.

It is early days in the development of the concept and turning it into reality. The model we will follow is that developed by Greenwave in the USA. They are a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping people establish and run profitable sea farming operations.
